(Open letter to the health minister.)

Assalamualaikum YB Dato Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad,

Alhamdulillah, YB has successfully become a minister with salary amounting to the ten thousands. Insya Allah you will also have a big pension in the future. Your loyal followers are rewarded handsomely and given high positions at grade 48 to 54.

We the rakyat are still like this. Our lives have not changed for the better. Lied to, kicked down and bullied by the capitalists. Why? Because we don’t have the power. We don’t have ten thousands in salary. We don’t have the police to protect us.

We don’t have assistants like the SUSK, SUS, SUPOL, SUA and all the special officers that are paid huge salaries with the citizens’ money to help the ministers. And because of that, the minister is the only place for us to ask for help from. It’s because of us rakyat that YB is in the current position. Please don’t forget!

YB that holds the responsibility towards the citizen,

We would like to take this opportunity in this open letter to congratulate you on your fight against smoking culture in public. Furthermore, it’s not only the smokers, but KKM is also fighting against vape users and sellers.

Congratulations and good job!

We know and understand that YB is a toxicologist. It can’t be denied that YB’s understanding is definitely higher than the public especially since you are the product of Malaysia’s brightest students once upon a time sponsored to the UK until you gained a PhD from the Imperial College.

At the same time, it’s generally known that YB is a scholar of Islam since long before and someone who deeply understands the fundamentals of fiqh. Regarding science methodology, there’s no need to deny that YB who has a doctorate’s degree from a renown university would have the best understanding. Therefore, it’s clear that YB is someone who is capable to evaluate and weigh in according to science as well as fiqh in regards to the muamalat problem in Malaysia. Especially within your own portfolio, that is KKM.

YB that is graced by Allah,

We heard from the world outside that Taiwan is trying to introduce the death sentence to drunk drivers. What about Malaysia, a Islam country known as Rahmatan lil alamin?

There has been many innocent lives lost due to alcohol. Countless of innocent bodies have become disabled and wounded because of alcohol. Can you still not see?

There’s no need for us to provide you with statistics, data or figures. Your officers that are many would obviously be able to find the facts they need. However, we still see YB’s stand is not consistent towards an issue, showing that YB is still unclear or even afraid to go against the capitalists and alcoholics!

Is being drunk good for health? Is being drunk good for a human? Is being drunk good for society? Are drunks contributing to the country? Is being drunk good for Islam? These questions should be thought about by someone who is sane, educated, and a mukmin who has power.

YB that was given power,

Will a human die if they don’t consume alcohol? Have you forgotten that alcohol is the king of all evil. From alcohol a drunk is born, and a drunk becomes a murderer! What sin is bigger than the sin of killing an innocent life?

Is it because your politician friends are drunks or alcoholics causing you to be afraid of fighting the king of all evil? YB you don’t have to provide a religious stance for this issue, science and the criminal angle are enough to prove that alcohol destroys a country.

Just look at what happened recently, a number of innocent lives killed by drunk drivers. What will become of the children and responsibilities of those who were killed? Who will be accountable for them in the future? Will your salary and allowance be provided to them?

YB that is respected,

Allah says in the Quran,

“Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land – it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one – it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, [even] after that, throughout the land, were transgressors.” (Al Maidah: 32)

How many lives must be lost because of alcohol? How much millions of dollars must be wasted on health problems because of alcohol? How much millions of dollars must be spent to rebuild infrastructure, enforcement and loss because of alcohol?

Therefore, we would like to advise YB to regain your taqwa to Allah and be just and fair as both are signs of taqwa. Allah orders,

“O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.” (Al Maidah: 8 )

In YB’s busyness looking at the world through the lens of politics, look at us with the lens of Quran, peer at us with the lens of a people. Maybe in the eyes of the government, the value of alcohol tax is higher that our lives. The happiness of drunks is bigger than Allah’s. But know that alcohol is haram and only Allah’s appeasement that brings blessings to the world and in the afterlife.

Clean Malaysia from drugs, cigarettes, vape and alcohol. This aspiration and movement must be started by the YB who is at a position of power. Political will, persistence and resilience must be there to carry out this reformation. Let the world know Malaysia as a country that is free from drunks, smokers and drug addicts. Not a country that bow down to alcohol and cigarettes capitalists.

YB that we love because of Allah,

Lastly, we hope that YB could put yourself in the shoes of the children of victims of drunk drivers. For a moment, try to feel how they feel. The difference is the victims’ children have no power, it’s the YB that has the power and voice. If the child has power, will they encourage being drunk?

We pray that YB and your team will work hard and carry out your responsibility well. Maybe this open letter will be looked at with closed eyes by some parties. But we believe that it will not be ignored by society. We, the citizens, are watching.

We might be looked down by YB, filtered for appointments and obstructed by bureaucracy, even played by YB’s officers, unlike the capitalists with billions of money. They would definitely be treated courteously.

But it’s alright, don’t forget that the ones who brought down the previous regime were us, the rakyat!
